Dear Partners,

March 23, 2021 marks the 11th anniversary of the Affordable Care Act (ACA)—a day we weren't sure we'd ever see. Since its inception, the ACA has faced hundreds of partisan attacks waged as repeal fights in Congress, strike down efforts in the courts and smear campaigns in the political arena.

Through it all, the ACA has proven to be a strong force for eliminating health coverage gaps and health equity disparities, and has provided a critical safety net for families and communities as we've faced the COVID-19 crisis.

ACA Anniversary Toolkit

Now as we celebrate the passage of the American Rescue Plan, which invests billions of dollars in reducing premium subsidies and incentivizing states to expand Medicaid, we must work together to protect and build on the ACA's strengths.

Here's our three step plan for building on the ACA:

  • STEP 1: Educate the public about the vital role the ACA has played in helping families weather the impacts of COVID-19 on our health and economy.
  • STEP 2: Ensure your members and communities know what's in the American Rescue Plan, how it will help individuals and communities out of the COVID-19 crater and who is responsible for its passage.
  • STEP 3: Spread the word that HealthCare.gov is back open! If your community members need coverage, or want to change plans, tell them to visit HealthCare.gov to check out their options. They only have until May 15, so tell them to sign up today!
Check out our new toolkit for messaging guidance, sample letters to the editor, social media graphics and fact sheets, including a brand new fact sheet about the ACA's Impact on Women, to help mobilize your members and communities around the ACA.

Join us for a Twitter Chat on Tuesday, March 23 at 3:00 p.m. ET.
And don't forget to keep reaching out to your Members of Congress! Thanking Members who voted in favor of the American Rescue Plan for their leadership on the health care issues that matter most to your community is a great way to build relationships and momentum for future improvements. If your Members of Congress voted against the bill, take this opportunity to hold them accountable.

The endurance of the ACA for over a decade is a testament to the strength of our collective efforts in the never-ending fight for progress. Building on the foundation we've laid is the best way to celebrate and affirm our work thus far. We couldn't be more proud to be doing it in partnership with you!

In Solidarity,

Jessie Zimmerer, Campaign Manager
