Our vision for health equity is one where everyone has the opportunity to achieve the best health outcomes possible.

Community Catalyst works closely with organizations across the country to advance health equity by providing leadership and support to federal, state, and local health advocates to integrate a health equity lens in their policy goals and in the growth and development of their state advocacy efforts.

We also seek to advance policies aimed at addressing discrimination and other structural barriers to health and access to care, including expanding benefits to better meet people’s needs and establish a health workforce that is more representative of the communities most harmed by our system today.

Key strategies that can help achieve health equity include:

  • Addressing social determinants of health, from affordable housing to opportunities for income and wealth generation, quality education, well-paying jobs, and safe working conditions
  • Ensuring access to essential health services, including sexual, reproductive and maternal health
  • Protecting and expanding comprehensive care for LGBTQ+ people
In order to help build a health system that is shaped by and accountable to all people, we must remove unjust, avoidable, and remediable inequities in health status or outcomes.
“Somewhere upstream, decisions were made to divert the river to benefit certain people and harm others, and decisions were made to place certain types of people on specific banks of the river while placing others elsewhere.”
