This year’s Older Americans Month (#OAM19) theme, “Connect, Create, Contribute,” fittingly celebrates the participation of older adults in their communities. But, as we all know, without good health, it’s quite difficult for older adults to engage in activities in their neighborhoods or with their friends or family.

So, during this, the final week of Older Americans Month (#OAM19), we’re lifting up some very rewarding work we’ve been doing at the Center to support better health care for older adults and their family caregivers. Over the last several years, we’ve had the wonderful opportunity to partner with the Medicare-Medicaid Coordination Office and The Lewin Group to develop a rich body of resources for providers and plans that provide care to older adults.

The Geriatric-Competent Care (GCC) webinar series helps providers in all settings and disciplines expand their knowledge and skills related to the unique aspects of caring for older adults and working with their caregivers. The webinars are also intended for frontline community partners and delivery staff such as care managers, member service representatives, and home care providers.

These webinars afford viewers the opportunity to learn from national leaders in geriatrics and gerontology and hear examples of best practices. And, as a bonus, almost all of the webinars offer free continuing education credits through the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) just for viewing!

Here is a brief list of just some of the titles in the Geriatric-Competent Care Library:

We encourage you to check out these archived resources and to tune in to our upcoming live webinars, for which we’ll also be offering social work and nursing continuing education credits in addition to those available from CMS:

Older Americans Month may be winding down for 2019, but here’s to improving older adults’ health throughout the year to better enable them to #ConnectCreateContribute!
