Community Catalyst is a national non-profit advocacy organization working to build consumer and community leadership to transform the American health system. THE PROJECT 

The Community Solutions for Health Equity Program is a national program that supports community-based organizations to build power to improve health care delivery and address equity. The program will pair funding resources for community organizations and a robust technical assistance program. The program equips consumer and community organizations with the resources, strategies and partnerships needed to foster respectful relationships between consumers and local health systems based on honesty and a commitment to equitable, positive care for consumers. Technical assistance is structured around Community Catalyst’s System of Advocacy Approach. The program will carry out a robust national communications strategy to influence the way the health care system responds to consumer and community demands and needs. Communications will promote the importance of consumer and community voice to produce more equitable health outcomes among philanthropy, opinion leaders, health care stakeholders and community advocates. We approach all of this work with the goal of lifting up the consumer voice, with particular attention paid to communities that have struggled to be heard in health care decision making as well as those who face disproportionate health disparities. 

POSITION SUMMARY 

The Technical Assistance Provider provides internal support, training and coordination of Community Catalyst’s unique System of Advocacy technical assistance services across the CSHE program.  This person will work closely with the Program Director to assure consistently high quality TA that is tailored to different audiences.  Building out TA tools, training and protocols for the organization is a major component of the position.  Synthesize existing organizational TA and develop core protocols for TA approach with accompanying training, guides, and supports. 

 

SUPERVISION

The Technical Assistance Provider is supervised by the Director of Consumer & Community Engagement 


RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Leads, facilitates and promotes cross-community and cross-state communication between consumer advocates elevating consumer health as a health, equity and social justice issue 

  • Assist program managers in tailoring TA approach and tools for different audiences. 

  • Orientation and coaching on the System of Advocacy TA approach for new staff in collaboration with program managers. 

  • Manages relationships with community-based partner organizations from a variety of states interested in identifying and carrying out their project goals  

  • Assist in all phases of project documentation production and distribution, including developing tracking systems for state support projects 

  • Provide administrative support including updating databases, preparing mailings, coordinating meetings, etc. 

  • Communicates with state partners and internal team on support requests, grant deliverables and other issues  

  • Offers timely, efficient, tailored coaching on our Systems of Advocacy to community and state-based organizations, drawing on other Community Catalyst staff members as needed.   

  • Lead support to states in the creation and execution of organizing strategies that promote/defend quality efforts to advance project initiatives 

  • Other responsibilities as assigned to achieve the goals of the project 

 

QUALIFICATIONS 

Required 

  • Bachelor’s plus at least 3 years’ experience leading state-wide issue campaigns; Master’s with 2 years relative experience; or 5 years relevant work experience  

  • Strong organizational skills/attention to detail, including an ability to manage several projects at once and respond to tight timelines  

  • Commitment to social justice and experience in social change activism such as: legislative advocacy or political/policy issue campaigns; community organizing; working with coalitions and stakeholders; and/or implementing communications strategies 

  • Demonstrated knowledge of relevant health care delivery system issues and how underserved populations fare in the current health system 

  • Experience with public speaking, community training, and/or coaching  

  • Ability to convey complex information in writing and speaking so that it is easily understood by the public  

  • Highly-developed attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple initiatives, deliverables and team members in a fast-paced environment. 

  • Demonstrated experience working and managing relationships with funders and national partners. 

  • Ability to travel  

 

Preferred 

  • Experience in racial justice training and facilitation  

  • Prior training in anti-oppression, equity and inclusion a bonus 

  • Bilingual/bicultural background  

 

LOCATION

Community Catalyst is based in Boston, MA with additional offices in Pittsburgh, Atlanta, Washington DC, St. Louis, MO, Lansing, MI, and New York City. 

 

BENEFITS & SALARY 

  • Salary Range: $55,000-$60,000
