POSITION SUMMARY 

This is an exciting time for Community Catalyst with a new strategic plan and a new multi-year plan to grow the organization’s donor community in support of health justice goals. Community Catalyst has strong partnerships with leading national foundations and is recognized in the philanthropic community for its leadership of national, state and local health advocacy collaborations. As part of a small and growing development team, the Senior Foundations Officer will build on this strong base to grow and diversify foundation revenue in support of strategic plan priorities. In partnership with the Director of Development, Executive Director and program leadership, the Senior Officer will actively manage a portfolio of current foundation relationships to increase funding and qualify a pipeline of new foundation prospects. The Senior Officer will work collaboratively to write timely, compelling concept papers and proposals, organize and participate in high-level foundation meetings, and implement cultivation and stewardship strategies. Beginning in summer 2022, the Senior Officer will supervise a foundations officer.

The Senior Foundations Officer is supervised by the Director of Development 

RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Lead cultivation, solicitation and stewardship strategies for a portfolio of foundation donors and prospects, identifying opportunities to increase revenue and expand partnerships. 

  • Develop and implement strategies to engage new foundation prospects; partner with program leadership to identify priority programs and build new relationships, including the identification of prospects for new cross-program collaborations. 

  • Write and edit proposals, concept papers and other documents with teams of internal and external collaborators. 

  • Facilitate and participate in meetings between funders/prospects and senior leadership, including formulation of solicitation strategies. 

  • Identify and grow opportunities for program-level and general operating support. 

  • Collaborate with programs and finance on the development of proposal budgets and other required documents. 

  • With Development Operations Manager, ensure timely and accurate documentation of grant agreements and donor requirements and timely acknowledgements. Maintain thorough and accurate donor records. 

  • As the department grows, assume supervisory responsibility for the Foundations Officer. 

  • Perform other duties as necessary to achieve the organization’s fundraising goals.

  • The Senior Foundations Officer is preferably located in Boston. We will also consider New York. 

QUALIFICATIONS 

Required  

  • Bachelor’s degree with 7 years of progressively responsible fundraising experience  

  • Track record of securing large foundation grants and engaging new prospects.  

  • Proven experience in the full spectrum of foundation fundraising (ie. proposal and budget development, cultivation, solicitation, and donor stewardship). 

  • Excellent persuasive writing, strategic thinking and analytical skills to communicate complex issues in ways that are compelling to donors. 

  • Ability to manage multiple projects, engage diverse collaborators and maintain project timelines in a fast-paced environment.  

  • Knowledge of Raiser’s Edge, Salesforce or a related system. 

  • Commitment to social justice and racial equity. 

Preferred 

  • Supervisory experience preferred. 

  • Experience fundraising for advocacy, health or related issue preferred. 

SALARY & BENEFITS 

  • Salary Range: $82,000-90,000
