National Health Care Reform
President Obama signed the national health care reform law on March 23, 2010. The historic achievement was only possible because of the commitment of the President and legislative leaders, the dedication of Hill staff, and the amazing work of advocates for the health and economic security of all Americans.
Community Catalyst is proud to have worked closely with state advocates from across the country who were tireless in their efforts to ensure that consumers voices were heard in the debate. This is an archive of our work during the year-long, successful effort to pass comprehensive national health care reform.
For the past two decades, states have been the locus of health care reform in this country. State consumer advocacy efforts are improving health outcomes and serving as a road map for achieving national reform. As a result, meaningful national health reform is on the horizon for the first time in many years.
Advocates’ collaborative work has increased public awareness and demand for a more accessible and affordable health care system. State advocates have important lessons to share with policymakers. Community Catalyst supports states in their efforts to shape the national debate.
