Implementation Timeline

The national health care reform law passed in March 2010 includes many provisions that will help consumers access quality, affordable health care. These benefits span a wide variety of issue areas and are implemented throughout a ten year period, ending in 2020. To learn more about these provisions, the steps necessary for implementation on both the state and federal levels, and the role advocates can play to ensure consumers are engaged in the process, click on an issue area and scroll through the timeline.

Drag either band in the timeline horizontally or use your mouse-wheel to see more provisions. Click on each event for more details. See below for help.

Using the Timeline: The implementation timeline uses two bands: the top band includes details of reform provisions across a 6-8 month timeframe; click a provision -- marked by a dot or a horizontal line --  to read more details. The lower band is a yearly overview highlighting the months currently displayed in the upper band. In this lower band, vertical 'ticks' represent provisions which can be viewed in the upper band. Clicking an approximate date in either band will center both bands around that date, allowing you to examine provisions or timeframes in more detail. Longer lines in either band represent provisions that phase in over a period of months/years.
