Grassroots Political Activist
Karen Hicks is an internationally regarded expert in grassroots political strategy, organizing, training and voter targeting. She has held leadership positions on the last two presidential campaigns. In 2008, she served as a Senior Advisor to Senator Hillary Clinton. During the 2004 election cycle, Karen served as the Field Director for the Democratic National Committee, where she led the program to organize and mobilize volunteers. Prior to joining the DNC, she served as New Hampshire State Director for Governor Howard Dean and served as Governor Jeanne Shaheen's Director for Policy at the New Hampshire Department of Health and Human Services. For three years, she was Executive Director of New Hampshire Citizen Action and has worked with dozens of progressive organizations to strengthen planning, advocacy and organizing capacity. In another role, Karen helped to lead the development of Catalist’s national voter database, a state-of-the-art, industrial strength database of voting aged individuals augmented with voter and demographic information.
